FAQ
Can anyone play?
Absolutely! Mahjong might look a little tricky at first, but with the right guidance (that’s where I come in!), it starts to click quickly and you’ll be hooked before you know it.
Everyone is welcome - especially complete beginners! Mahjong 101 is designed for those who are brand new to the game, so no experience is needed. Just bring your curiosity, and you’ll be playing in no time! No matter your background, experience, or learning style, you’re in the right place.
Does Mahjong require math?
Don't worry, no! You don't need any math skills or other superpowers. Just an open mind, desire to have fun, and enjoyment of a little learning along the way. As the saying goes - if I can play it, so can you!
Do you always need four people to play Mahjong?
Nope! While four players is the standard, you can absolutely play with three people and still have a great game. If it’s just the two of you, there are fun ways to adapt the game as well - because Mahjong is too good to sit out just because you’re missing a player!
What do I need to bring to a group class?
Nothing, just a positive attitude and an open mind! I have everything needed for an immersive learning experience. Eventually, you’ll need the official National Mah Jongg League card to play, but no rush - I’ll have them available for purchase during class for $20, or you can order one directly from the League anytime after class at your convenience.
Why should I trust you with my Mahjong journey?
Great question! Learning Mahjong can feel intimidating, and I don’t take lightly the trust you place in me as your teacher. I’m not only a Certified American Mahjong Instructor, but I also went the extra mile to study how to teach well. I sought out training from seasoned authorities, learning what works - and what doesn’t - so I could create my signature Mahjong Made Simple method.
The Mahjong community has noticed, too - I was honored to be nominated as a 2025 Favorite Instructor by the American Mah Jongg Association.
Most importantly, my students describe me as patient, supportive, and fun. With me, you’ll learn quickly, without judgment, and in a way that makes the game feel approachable, social, and joyful. Here's a bit more about me and my approach to Mahjong learning.
